Today I decided to draw instead of paint with watercolors. Something feels very right and natural with a fountain pen in my hands and a big page of creamy paper in front of me. I’ve started the first page of a new journal today. Last year I abandoned my journal except for quick studies and sketches of jewelry designs. Instead I painted in watercolors of Arches paper in 7 x 10 sheets and tried very hard to work on my technique. Today, for now, I feel like returning to the casual, haphazard nature of drawing on the page, combining with a little color, combining with text and calligraphy. The relaxed quality of the drawings is what I need right now to motivate me to get working on new designs for jewelry and textiles.
