There are certain color combinations that Nature reveals that just lodge right into my heart. These Cannas from The Christchurch Botanical Gardens in New Zealand did just that. The saturated oranges and yellows popped against the dark blue greens and plums, calmed by the cool background. I find this kind of scene irresistible.
I enjoyed working on this larger piece (it is 16 x 20″) – even during a busy week of Sweater/Accessory design for Lost Horizons. It gave the opportunity to work shorter sessions and think about the work overnight- not rushing, not forcing anything in the process. It felt like working on a painting more than some of the earlier botanical pieces.
