I have been on a quest to make my beadwork move in space, like a sculpture rather than a flat piece of weaving. Today I finished this cuff, which I name after the Animas River, near Durango in Colorado. I feel like this cuff can be re-interpreted in many ways and colors, and would like to keep my themes to rivers in Colorado. I hope it captures the rippling, dynamic nature of the streams and waterways that are so much a part of our lives. It’s woven, bead by bead with tiny glass beads- some from Czech republic, some Japanese and some antique beads from Italy and France. I’ve figured out a way to stretch the beadwork between soft wire to give it an armature and depth.
